I’m sure by now you’ve heard about the devastating Las Vegas shooting on Sunday night. First of all, I want to encourage all of us to pray for the victims, their families, first responders, and medical personnel through this incredibly difficult time. Why don’t you take a moment to do that now before reading the rest of this.

As with any other shooting, bombing or terrorist attack, many people react with wanting more regulation or policies in an attempt to prevent these things from happening in the future. If you don’t agree with these kinds of solutions, remember, they want the same thing you do… peace, safety, security. But does more regulation really fix the issue?

As the news came pouring in, I came across an article about this gunman’s father. You can read it at this link.

We have no way of knowing how involved his father was in his life, but isn’t it interesting how often you see the lifestyle of a parent being carried on by a son or daughter?

Gun control won’t solve the problem.
A heart with evil intent will find a way to do evil.

Our response to these kinds of events must first be prayer, followed by a deeper commitment to raise our children to love God and the people around them.

Even if you’re not a parent, even if you’re single, you’re not off the hook. You have at least one person, probably several people in your life that are looking to you. People that are watching how you act, how you respond to things, how you make it in this life. Let them see you pray. Let them see you worship. Let them see how you love people and why you love them. Let us rise to be the fathers God created us to be, and let us change the world… one son, one daughter at a time.

Scripture of the week – Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
